New Blog

I am so excited that I found a new blog site for the students to blog at. It is called kidblog. Each student has his/her own blog and can post responses to other's posts too. This blog site is more kid-friendly. I hope that you check it out!

Kindness Cups

This week, we put up Kindness Cups in the room. Each student has a cup with his/her name on it. Through out the day, other students may put kind winds or thoughts on a note for someone else and put it in their cup. The student must sign his/her name on the note so the person knows who it is from. So far, students have enjoyed giving each other kind words and encouragement. They want to check the cups often to see if anyone has left them anything. Most students receive at least one note a day. Please encourage your child to give a note of kindness to someone they would not usually say a kind word to in person.

Beach Break

Thank you for those of you sent in food items for our "beach break" reading time. The students enjoyed the snacks, laying on beach towels and Paige was kind enough to bring in leis for all of the girls in the class to wear. Perhaps if we continue to think warm thoughts, Punxsutawney Phil will not see his shadow!

Spelling Class

This week will be the last week that I will be doing spelling for all of the fifth grade. Students will be given spelling assignments and tests from their homeroom teacher. The fifth grade teachers feel that this will be most beneficial to the students in preparation for the upcoming PSSAs. The start of the third nine weeks will be January 17th and so this will be a nice transition into the change of spelling responsibilities. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me or your child's homeroom teacher know.
